Would you tuck me in, please?

We are not held back by the love we didn’t receive in the past, but by the love we’re not extending in the present.

Well, Ain’t That a Kick in the Bu…Head

Since I started taking a daily chemotherapy drug I have been unable to work.  I am sick a part of every day, thanks to the side effects.  I shouldn’t complain — it’s keeping me alive after all (I am now 15 months past my previously expected expiration date).  But I do miss work.  At least I miss feeling productive and don’t feel I am contributing enough to justify my continued existence.  You all have heard this rant before if you have read previous postings, but it’s all part of why I do the little work I do.

For the past several years I have worked three or four days each year — during elections.  I can do this by not taking my meds for a couple of days.  Last year I got lucky and was selected to work during the advanced elections.  That meant I got to work 10 days for two elections and I was so happy to have the extra money for Christmas shopping and needed car repairs.

Well, working those extra days turned out to be not such a blessing.  I just had my taxes figured and because of the extra income I was so happy about, I ended up earning too much.  Now my Social Security benefits have become taxable.  So for the $1000 I earned by working the extra days, I owe about that much in taxes.  It just doesn’t seem fair.

Well, on the bright side — KU did advance to the Sweet Sixteen.  Go Hawks!

We make our fortunes and we call them fate.

Keeping fingers crossed

KU survived their first round — and against a “B” team.  First half was a little scary and lead at half time was only 4 points over Boston University, but they pulled away in the second half and won by nineteen.  Wish ’em luck Sunday when they play Illinois.

Just read they found radiation in food close to crippled reactors in Japan and that there has been a run on radiation detectors here in the states.  Anyone scared?  Remember the China syndrome?  Is our government lying to us, trying to keep us from panicking?  Any scientists out there willing to share the real scoop?  Love to hear from you.

Tourney Time

Anyone watching the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament?  Were there more buzzer beaters today than ever before?  Are your brackets already broken?  Glad I’m not in a pool this year.  My team starts play tomorrow — KU.  Hey, I’m an alumnus, I’m entitled to a little breast beating.

Wish I could get as excited about baseball.  I wish Royals fans could pull a Green Bay and buy the team for the city.  I thought about going door-to-door and seeing if I could collect a dollar or two from everyone in the metro area, but then I thought everyone would just think I’m a crank.  Anyone got any ideas on how we could accomplish a fan takeover?  I want a team the whole city can identify with.  I want players who will stick around a while.  Let’s face it — I want George Brett and Frank White back.  Do you remember Amos Otis and Freddie Patek?  Who played shortstop and center field for us last year?

If you watch a game, it’s fun.

If you play a game, it’s recreation.

If you work at it, it’s golf.

Still homeless

Found a house we really like, but, wouldn’t you know, someone beat us to the punch.  So, still looking.

KU won the regular season and the Big XII tournament title, but have to wait til Friday for their first game at the big dance.  Think they’ll win the whole thing?   No baseball yet.  Looks like no football this year either.

I’ve been so bored today — can you tell?  One can only fold bookmarks for so long.  Wish I had a job.  Wish I could count on being able to do a job.  Wish I could do something other than sit around and wish I could do something.

what a gold mine you are,

doesn’t mean you shine any less.

I upgraded to Windows 7 last week and as a result I have had only intermittent internet access.  I would apologize to my many readers for the disruption in postings, but since I have no readers (yet) I guess an apology is unnecessary.

Lots of things on my mind today.  Been house hunting lately.  Just seemed like the prudent thing to do.  With what we have been paying for rent we may as well pay ourselves a little in equity.  Looking forward to baseball season with the usual frustration of a Royals fan in seeing our best players being sold off.  As I write this KU is playing Texas for the Big XII tournament championship.

So, a lot going on.  It’s a good thing to have many distractions.  I can remember when I was just sitting around waiting to die.  So much better to be too busy to dwell on it.

7 Straight

By beating MU, KU won its seventh straight Big XII title.  Hopefully it’s a lucky seven and they’ll be fortunate in the upcoming tournaments.  Anyone doubt they will be a number one seed in the NCAA big dance?

I am a KU alumnus so have every right to be a fan.  But, most years I feel like I’ve at least helped raise those boys.  I always want to see them stay and complete their education.  How can we convince the twins to stay for one more year?  Any ideas?

If you cannot win make the fellow ahead of you break the record.
